TEHRAN (IRNA) -- Head of Lithuanian Vilnius University's Oriental Department, Audrius B. Inverse visited Iran over the weekend to discuss strengthening and expansion of mutual cultural relations with Iranian officials.

According to a report released by the Foreign Ministry Media Department on Saturday, during the visit, the Lithuanian orientalist conferred with the chancellor and instructors of Tehran University on matters of mutual concern.

Besides he met a number of university students majoring in European and American studies.

Audrius Inverse also met with head of the European and American Studies Department of the Foreign Ministry's Institute for Political and International Studies (IPIS).

At the meeting, Inverse expressed interest in scientific cooperation with this department.

He also called for exchange of instructors and students and providing the scientists of both sides with opportunities for studying through such exchanges.

The report added that as a consequence of joint efforts of Iran and the Oriental Department of Vilnius University, the Persian language department at this Lithuanian university has been revived.

"At present, 20 Lithuanian students are studying Persian.
